constant battle between reason and emotion
"Even with this drink in my hand, it don't ease the pain of every dying day"
Everyone (ok, maybe not everyone. Hell, probably not even most people.) should run out and buy this album. Orquesta del Desierto - Dos. It's cool, happy, summery sounding music with some wonderful, slightly melancholy lyrics. Every time I listen to it I like it better than before.
Here's a little snippet from a review that puts it far better than my drunken, melancholy ass can do right now....
"The pervading mood throughout the album, and the lingering tugging you'll feel in your gut when it's over, is a gentle melancholy. There's nothing outright weepy or depressing on Dos; it's more like the feeling of driving at nightfall in late August while listening to Led Zeppelin III and knowing that autumn will soon be upon you. There is sadness, yes, but it's a good, rich and, in a way, reassuring sadness, the sort that allows you to evaluate what's important and what isn't." - Lollipop online - Brian Varney
I listened to this album this evening after berating myself for doing something I knew I should not have done and while thinking thoughts I did not want to think. I was feeling pretty damn low. Despite the somewhat downbeat lyrics, it made me feel a whole lot better.
Today's message is brought to you by the number 9 and the word melancholy.
